Evidence for Non-potential Magnetic Fields in the Quiet Sun

چکیده
A comparison of BBSO H centerline ltergrams and videomagnetograms was made to investigate the existence of non-potential magnetic elds in the quiet Sun near magnetic network. We use the bril structure in the H images as a proxy for the horizontal chromospheric magnetic eld which we compare with the horizontal eld obtained by potential extrapolation of the observed, line-of-sight photospheric eld. The quiet-sun eld was found to be consistently and signiicantly non-potential in each of the three elds of view studied. A transient extreme ultraviolet (EUV) brightening, known as a blinker, occurred during the observations of a region where the eld is highly non-potential, suggesting a connection between magnetic reconnection and non-potentiality.

Proper integration time of polarization signals of internetwork regions using Sunrise/IMaX data
Distribution of magnetic fields in the quiet-Sun internetwork areas has been affected by weak polarization (in particular Stokes Q and U) signals. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the weak polarization signals, several approaches, including temporal integrations, have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we aim to investigate a proper temporal-integration time with which...
متن کاملObservational Evidence for Small-Scale Mixture of Weak and Strong Fields in the Quiet Sun
Three different maps of the quiet Sun, observed with the Advanced Stokes Polarimeter (ASP) and the Diffraction-Limited Stokes Polarimeter (DLSP), show evidence of strong (≃1700 G) and weak (<500 G) fields coexisting within the resolution element both at network and internetwork locations. The angular resolution of the observations is of 1(ASP) and 0.6 (DLSP), respectively. Even at the higher DL...
متن کاملQuiet Sun Magnetic Field Measurements Based on Lines with Hyperfine Structure
The Zeeman pattern of Mn I lines is sensitive to hyperfine structure (HFS) and, because of this reason, they respond to hG magnetic field strengths differently from the lines commonly used in solar magnetometry. This peculiarity has been employed to measure magnetic field strengths in quiet Sun regions. However, the methods applied so far assume the magnetic field to be constant in the resoluti...
متن کاملComparison of transient horizontal magnetic fields in a plage region and in the quiet Sun
Aims. Properties of transient horizontal magnetic fields (THMFs) in both plage and quiet Sun regions are obtained and compared. Methods. Spectro-polarimetric observations with the Solar Optical Telescope (SOT) on the Hinode satellite were carried out with a cadence of about 30 seconds for both plage and quiet regions located near disk center. We select THMFs that have net linear polarization (L...
متن کاملThe Properties of Horizontal Magnetic Elements in Quiet Solar Intranetwork
Using the data observed by the Solar Optical Telescope/Spectro-Polarimeter aboard the Hinode satellite, the horizontal and vertical fields are derived from the wavelength-integrated measures of Zeeman-induced linear and circular polarizations. The quiet intranetwork regions are pervaded by horizontal magnetic elements. We categorize the horizontal intranetwork magnetic elements into two types: ...
